Bete Noire powers
The following are Lance’s powers in Bete Noire. I will warn when they’re applicable for a log in general and ask before using inside an interaction, but if you’d like me to never use them on your character at all, please let me know here.
Alternate self
Several months ago, Lance’s body was overtaken by an alternate version of himself with superpowers. Lance remained suppressed, trapped in his own mind, and kept the memories of the time when his alternate self was in control. He also kept his other self’s powers. These powers relate primarily to pokémon, but also work, in a diluted form, on other animals (including the wolf form of werewolves, but not their human form). Because this Lance is unpractised in their use, both the powers are unrefined and not as controlled as they could be.
The first power is the ability to heal with touch or near-contact. Basically, his hands glows and the injury he’s holding over it heals. Potentially, he can heal any injury regardless of their severity, but it does take energy and Lance hasn’t practised enough to make a fatal-injury level of healing applicable.
The second power is empathy: he can read animals’ minds and memories, with or without their permission, by touching or with near-contact with their heads. He can also brainwash them by filtering his own perceptions into their thought patterns, something he can do without even realising it. Unlike the healing power, this power takes effort to turn off, and because Lance is loathe to invade animals’ minds and perhaps affect them unintentionally, he hasn’t yet learned how to keep it turned off despite contact.
Incubus
As of this log Lance has taken on some minor incubus abilities. Basically, he needs to feed off sexual energy, though he won’t die if he’s denied it (just get very lethargic and rather ill) and he doesn’t need to kill to do it. He also has slightly elevated healing abilities and a bit of a sixth sense with regard to sex—at least being able to tell it’s happening nearby, but not nuances. Those from whom he feeds will, at most, feel strangely tired, but will be fine after a good night’s sleep.
He has two main abilities: the first is a low-level attraction aura, or a ‘pheromone thing’, as Needy calls it. When this aura is active, those with biological or orientational potential—either women or gay/bi men—are intensely attracted to him. It doesn’t actively control them or affect their free will; basically it just makes them horny for him specifically. This aura is not on all the time—it only kicks in when Lance hasn’t ‘fed’ recently or for long enough. The aura also makes his touch, direct skin-to-skin touch, arousing.
The second ability is one Lance isn’t yet aware of, and that’s dreamsurfing. Basically, when he’s asleep, Lance unconsciously hijacks a person’s dream and becomes an avatar of that person’s perfect sexual partner, inciting a sexual dream from which he can feed. His avatar will always remain male and he can, to some extent, tap into the dream to anticipate the dreamer’s expectations of their dream-partner, as well as manipulate things so discrepancies go unnoticed. Even if wearing the face of someone the dreamer knows, the avatar will react as they expect, whether it’s accurate or not. The dreamsurfing is his main source of energy. He can’t actively control the dream and hide his presence, however, so anyone who has control of dreams or experience with mental abilities would be able to notice his presence.
Lance has learned the trick of ‘snacking’ by borrowing sexual energy through a kiss, which he uses to keep his attraction aura inactive.
